POGGIO AL RICCIO

Civitella Marittima (Grosseto)                                                          TOSCANA - ITALIA

Estabilished in 2003, Poggio al Riccio is a small family-run farm in the Maremma hills of southern Tuscany, between Siena, Mount Amiata and the sea. The land, which had been abandoned for over 10 years, is an ideal spot for organic farming. The old existing olive grove has been reclaimed from the brambles and  is now  back in production. Over 400 new trees have been planted in 2004, together with 2 new vineyards of Sangiovese and Merlot grapes  for the production of Montecucco DOC wine
( first harvest expected in 2006 ).
Our olive trees belong to the classic tuscan combination of Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo varieties . The olives are hand-picked between the end of October and mid November and pressed  within 48 hours at a nearby olive-mill, to ensure the lowest possible acidity.  Our olive oil has a distinctive  fresh and grassy flavour, with hints of artichoke and a slightly peppery aftertaste.
